Do Not Lose Your Identity

Friday April 24, 2020

When a Christian fails to stand out, either because of fear, shyness, compromise, peer pressure etc, and they end up to mingle and blend in with unbelievers; they lose their identity in God and become worthless. The loss of true identity is a recipe for spiritual failure and disaster.

Hosea 7: 8 KJV
Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

Hosea 7:8‭-‬10 NLT
“The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake! Worshiping foreign gods has sapped their strength, but they don’t even know it. Their hair is gray, but they don’t realize they’re old and weak. Their arrogance testifies against them, yet they don’t return to the Lord their God or even try to find him.

When a Christian fails to stand out, either because of fear, shyness, compromise, peer pressure etc, and they end up to mingle and blend in with unbelievers; they lose their identity in God and become worthless. The loss of true identity is a recipe for spiritual failure and disaster.

A half baked cake is burnt on one side and uncooked on the other. It is inedible and ends up in the bin. Jesus said "But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!" (Rev. 3:16). To retain your citizenship in God's kingdom, you must not lose or compromise your identity as a child of God.

Idolatry is one of the sins God hate most. It makes him jealous and angry. Idolatry is when you're not proud and bold to declare you're a child of God; when you borrow the values, mindset, and way of life of the world; and when you seek and put other things above and ahead of God, no matter how justifiable it is.

The devil uses compromise to sap and lose your spiritual strength and you may not even know it; like Samson didn't realize the Lord has left him (Judges 16:20). Many Christians carry about and celebrate stale glory, anointing, revelation, position etc. Such can be poisonous when transferred to other people. They have lost the glory and power embedded in their identity.

The only way to regain it lies in the honest acknowledgement of their present state, genuine repentance and returning to the Lord like the prodigal son (Luke 15: 17-21).
Prayer/Confession: Father, I.am sorry for my sins of compromise and idolatry and for making you jealous. Please heal my backsliding and restore unto me the joy of your salvation in Jesus name.
