What Do You Focus On?

Thursday, January 30th, 2025
In a world filled with fleeting pleasures and distractions, the anchor scripture calls on believers to shift focus from the temporary, visible realities of this world to the eternal, unseen truths of God’s kingdom. The seen things are transient and bound by time while the unseen are eternal. This eternal focus doesn’t remove us from the world but empowers us to live purposefully within it.
2 Corinthians 4:18 - "While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."

Abraham lived with an eternal mindset and left his familiar surroundings to pursue God’s promises, looking forward to a heavenly city designed and built by God (Hebrews 11:8-10). Similarly, Paul endured hardships, which he considered momentary compared to the eternal glory ahead (2 Corinthians 4:17). Abraham and Paul understood that their lives on earth were only a preparation for a life with God that would never end. This is the same mindset we should have.
Beloved, instead of being consumed by worldly pursuits, Matthew 6:19-20 reminds us to store up treasures in heaven. This mindset should shape how we pursue our purpose. In practical terms, fixing our eyes on eternity transforms our priorities by deepening our relationship with God. It gives us resilience in trials, as we recognize that earthly suffering pales in comparison to the joy awaiting us in God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we ask that You help us to stay focused on You, so that we may glorify You in our present lives, as we also prepare ourselves for the eternity You have prepared for us in Jesus' name. Amen
