Prayerlessness Is Pride!

I Peter 5:6-7 - "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

In the preceeding verses of the anchor scripture, the Bible says “...God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (I Peter 5:5). In Prov 6:16-19, a "proud look" is mentioned as the first thing the Lord hates. This is serious. Pride is a killer. It puts one in a position where their growth, increase, or progress is suppressed by God Himself. That's a very terrible place to be.

Consequently, we can consider the exhortation to humble ourselves in the anchor scripture as an instruction rather than an advice or suggestion. This is powerful! The scripture tells us one way to show humility, and that is by "..casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." This basically means that prayer is a show of humility. Consequently, we can also infer that prayerlessness is a display of pride. Pride manifests itself in diverse ways, but prayerlessness is one subtle but grievous expression of pride.

Prayerlessness is an inadvertent expression of self-sufficiency because if you are not praying, you are saying you don't need God! Every religion prays to some form of deity as an expression of dependence and a request for assistance from the deity. It is sad to note that Christians, who worship the one and only living God, are the ones that pray with the least devotion, on average. If you love your life and desire progress, then humble yourself to God in prayer and do it consistently.

Prayer: Father, I repent of every display of pride. Have mercy on me and grant me grace to humble myself consistently in prayer in Jesus' name. Amen
